LIFE IN NEW YORK

The other morning I was sitting at my favorite morning cafe. Next to me was a mom and a daughter. They were happily chatting, the daughter was telling her how she was out all night partying and lost her purse on the train. The mom never raised an eyebrow or belted out any anger.
This being the casual attitude of a New York City mother, because somewhere in her own mind she was remembering back to her own days of doing stupid things.
  Anyway, their conversation ebbed away
And the mom turned and looked at me and said, "Your the hairdresser from down the street?" I said, "Yes I am"
She went onto say how I did her hair awhile ago and how much she loved my blow dry.
Her and her daughter talked to me for quit awhile. The mom was from Amsterdam and had come to America years before had gotten married and now was divorced. Like most of us. They sat and told me their life story and they were just charming.
People that I meet in New York do this to me all the time. There I'll be, just sitting somewhere by myself on my phone or IPad and people feel a need to connect.
It's a hairdresser thing. Or it's just me.
Most of my close friends say I just exhume friendliness. This is what makes me a great hairdresser.
It's a nice feeling to be walking down the street in one of the biggest cities in the world and have people that you know say hello or stop and chat. You know you are now starting to be embedded into a community. My community being, Greenwich Village. I think I could get to love it here. OH, that's right, I already do.
Xoxo
